When does the program for the next semester come out?
The program for the summer semester comes out at the end of March, while the program for the winter semester comes out at the end of Septeber. As soon as all dates are set, they will be announced online.
When does the course registration start?
The online registration for the summer semester starts at the beginning of April, while the online registration for the summer semester starts at the end of September. In case a course takes place before the start of the semester, its registration will begin earlier. You can see the exact registration window for specific courses on their respective TUMonline page.
How can I register for the workshop?
You can find a link, as well as details about each workshop registration in the course description on TUMonline under "Course Criteria & Registration".
The registration generally takes place over TUMonline. To do so, you must be enrolled at TUM. If you are not enrolled at TUM and would like to attend a course, please refer to the section “Registration for Non-TUM Students.”
How do I find out whether I've received a spot in a course that I chose?
You will become an automatic email from TUM online as soon as you receive a spot. Please remember to cancel your registration, if you are not able to participate in the course, in order to allow others the chance to receive a spot.
How does the waitlist work?
At first, everyone receives a place on the waitlist. After all spots are distributed (on the date displayed on TUMonline), new spots will be automatically assigned to stundents on the waitlist as soon as they become available (for instance, if someone cancels their registration). If you receive a spot after being on the waitlist, you will be notified via email from TUMonline eine Nachricht.
You can find information about the waitlist's ranking procedure in the “Ranking Procedure” column on the TUMonline registration page.
People who have not been accepted may not attend and will not receive a certificate of participation.
If I am on the waitlist, how high are my chances of getting a spot in the course?
The farther into the semester the course starts, the higher are your chances of getting in. Towards the end of the semester, it is common that many people give up their spot because they have to prepare for exams. If a workshop really interests you, keep that date open.
I am registered for a course but cannot participate. How do I cancel my registration?
Cancel your registration as soon as possible over TUMonline. This way you allow someone on the waitlist to participate. You should cancel your reigstration at the latest three days before the course starts.
Later cancellations are only accepted with a doctor's note. If you fail to cancel two times and do not come to the course, you will not receive a spot again!
I do not study at TUM. Can I still participate in a course for students?
TUM students have priority in this case, but you can also participate, if you are enrolled in another university. You will find more information on how to register over at "Registration for Non-TUM Students.”
I am a PhD student or an employee at TUM. Can I participate in a course for students?
As a member of the TUM Graduate School, you can participate in courses from the student program for free.
If you are a TUM employee you can also participate, although students do have priority on the waitlist.
You will find more information on registration for non-TUM students over at "Registration for Non-TUM Students".
When will I receive a participation certificate?
Course for credits (ECTS)
In most seminars and workshops, you can earn ECTS credits. You can find out what requirements must be met to earn credits in the course description and in the instructions provided by the lecturer at the beginning of the course.
The corresponding ECTS credits will be recorded via TUMonline as soon as the grade is available. After the exam results are published, the credit may appear under “Other Courses” in your academic transcript. Your departmets’s Students' Office/Examination Management is responsible for assigning the credit to a specific module or area of your degree program.
For courses in which ECTS credits can be attained, a certificate of participation will be issued only in urgent cases.
Course without credits (ECTS)
After successfully completing a course offered by WTG Kontexlehre, for which no ECTS credits are awarded, you will receive a certificate of attendance if you need one.
In this case, please request the issuing of a certificate of participation by informing the title of the course, the name of the lecturer, your name, and your student-ID number via email to wtg.stm@sot.tum.de – at the latest within 10 days after the last session of the course.
Events organized by external hosts (e.g. LMU)
Please check directly with the lecturer to find out how you can obtain a course grade or a certificate of attendance for this course.
Under what circumstances do I receive ECTS credits?
You need to complete an assignment for the course, such as a presentation, an oral or written exam, or a term paper.
For more details, please refer to the course description or consult directly with the lecturer of the course. Whether this assignment will be recognized as academic credit toward your study program is determined by the relevant examination committee of your department.
What do the ECTS credits listed in the course description mean?
In some cases, it is possible to earn more credits in a course by taking on bigger assignments (e.g., term papers, protocols, project work). This is specified in the course description for each course.
The recognition of course work is sometimes limited by academic regulations (so that, for example, although 3 credits may be earned, only 2 can be recognized).
I cannot find any information on whether this course is recognized as part of my study program. Does that mean it cannot be accredited?
If the module assignment of a couse is not listed under your study program, please check with the responsible students' office in your department to determine what will be accepted and under what circumstances (term paper, exam, grading, etc.).
Do I have to sign up for the exam?
In order to attain credits, Kontextlehre WTG courses require you to sign up for the exam over TUMonline. This applies to all types of exams, including those that involve assignments completed during course time such as presentations or written excercises.
Will I get a grade?
Generally, your assignments will be graded. Exceptions are noted in the course descriptions.
I need a certificate! What do I need to do?
If you study at another university or if you are a PhD student and thus cannot be registered via TUMonline, you have the option to request a certificate of your participation in the course and of the acquired ECTS credits.
Please write an email to wtg.stm@sot.tum.de and inform us what kind of certification certification you require and what information needs to be listed (name of the course, name of the lecturer, your name, if applicable student-ID number, grade, ECTS credits, SWS, course duration). Please also inform us by when you need the certificate, since we have a high volume of requests. We will notify you when you can pick up the certificate or send it to you by email.
