The school embodies TUM’s commitment to Human-Centered Engineering by bringing together a diverse group of faculties, staff and students from political science and governance, educational sciences, STS, sociology, philosophy, history, law, psychology, and didactics of research on teaching and learning. To advance our mission, we collaborate with a broad range of partners and organizations from across the globe. The collaborative spirit unites our three departments: the Department of Governance, the Department of Educational Sciences, and the Department of Science, Technology, Society. Together, the departments offer a unique intellectual environment with a commitment to the public interest and a shared culture of learning and exploration in an international and interdisciplinary setting.
Educational Sciences

Are you interested in research? Here, too, EDU at TUM is an international leader in interdisciplinary educational research. We open up thinking and foster scientific creativity with a focus on digital-based educational technologies and human-AI interactions, science communication and participation, and lifelong learning. Colleagues from psychology, education, data science and didactics work closely together to advance research.
Governance

At the Department of Governance, we are interested in institutions, international organizations and economies, as well as in society at large and its real-world and online dynamics. Our research and teaching evolves around challenges arising from big societal, environmeltal, and technological transformations.
Science, Technology and Society

The Department of Science, Technology and Society (STS) at the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology is dedicated to understanding the larger ethical, social, political and legal dimensions of science and technology. Embedded in TUM’s unique innovation ecosystem, we are committed to enabling a more responsible and sustainable engagement with science and innovation through social science research, teaching and public dialogue – often in collaboration with partners from technical fields.
