Concept and Target Group
Many parents* are familiar with this situation: during a meeting or class, no childcare is available for their child. Bringing the child along can be difficult, however, because typical university rooms offer hardly any opportunities for young children to play. The TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology has therefore set up a children’s room at two locations, which staff and students with children can use flexibly. This initiative makes a significant contribution to supporting the compatibility of work and family life.

Possible Uses
- Quiet room for expectant and nursing mothers and for people with health impairments
- Workspace where parents can work while their child plays independently
- Meeting room for a small number of staff members or students, while the child occupies themselves independently
- Playroom for bridging waiting times
- A place for children to stay under the care of professional childcare staff
Childcare
Both rooms can be booked either for self-supervised use or for childcare provided by others. For external childcare in both rooms, the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology cooperates with RUF agency. Please note that self-supervised use and external childcare cannot take place in the same children’s room at the same time. External childcare takes priority over self-supervised use.
Childcare requests require at least three days’ notice for processing. Please observe the information for parents regarding the use of flexible short-term childcare.
The minimum childcare period is 2 hours (plus handover time).
Thanks to subsidies, the current cost per hour of childcare is € 6.- per hour for SOT students and € 9.- for SOT university staff. External childcare is limited to a maximum of 40 / 60 hours per semester. For students and staff who do not study or work at the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, cost arrangements must be discussed in advance with the relevant school.
